- Tenders are invited for Construction (2) Underground Reservoir (Barkad) for Communities in Water Shortage Crisis in Duruqsi, Karin-Shabeel Villages, under Togdheer and m.jeex Regions of Somaliland Respectively. Organization Background Taakulo Somaliland Community Commonly known by the acronym “TAAKULO”. Taakulo is a multifaceted non-governmental, non-profit making, non-political and non-partisan development and humanitarian aid organization established in 2007 and headquartered in Hargeisa, Somaliland. Taakulo is a Somali word meaning “helping/aiding”. Working in partnership with UN, international, and National organizations, Taakulo is dedicated to helping the disadvantaged people and communities throughout Somaliland by engaging in development and related activities and providing relief support and assistance, facilitating, and promoting participatory local community activities and programs that emphasize human dignity and self-reliance. Taakulo Organization was established to assist the Somali community, to whom time has tested their resilience to the tipping point, drought and famine scavenging their livelihood, war and conflict avenging their economy on the other hand. The projects are basically based on the needs of the communities in which they are implemented where the beneficiaries always take part in the planning process. Taakulo engages on a long-term commitment, partnership approach with the beneficiaries in implementing the Projects. The objective is to set up a regional program concentrating on a particular sector, such as Health, education, water and sanitation, Income Generation, Orphan sponsorship program, disability and people with special needs, emergency respond or improving food security in the country among others. Project Background The SOMJR 2020 continues to remain crucial in the efforts towards building resilient and independent communities in Awdal, Togdheer and Wagooyi Galbeed regions of Somaliland. Thus far, the project has achieved substantial progress across WASH, Health, FSL sectors and Multipurpose Cash interventions. The WASH interventions has so far benefited 11 vulnerable communities with 8,910 people. Additionally, 667 households (HH) benefited from water trucking in Qalah IDP. In Health and in responses to the COVID-19 pandemic, the curative services has so far benefited 5,674 individuals (3,115F; 2,559M) while 3,985 children were supported monthly through immunization and provision of essential health care programs. 1,784 has so far benefited from quality antenatal services. These communities also benefited from preventative, safe motherhood, and hygiene promotion interventions. The multi-purpose cash interventions enabled 173 HH (94F, 79M) cover their household expenditures. The Somali Food Security Outlook for June 2020 to January 2021 outlines that the below-average 2020 Gu cereal harvest and forecast of below-average Deyr rainfall from October to December 2020 drive a worsening food security outlook through at least early 20211 further hampering gains made. Based on October 2020 to January 2021 IPC projections, high priority locations (IPC 3, at risk of IPC 4) include large parts of Awdal, Woqooyi Galbeed, Togdheer regions in Somaliland. The needs in these communities remain high and widespread. Internally displaced persons (IDPs), majority of whom are poor and live in urban areas in desperate conditions, rely heavily on external humanitarian assistance. Food security is also expected to worsen among IDPs, with Crisis (IPC Phase 3) outcomes expected across most of the main IDP settlements, as significant proportions of IDP households are unable to meet their minimum food needs. Humanitarian assistance must be sustained through December 2020 to prevent Crisis (IPC Phase 3) or Emergency (IPC Phase 4) outcomes for 2.1 million people2. Somalia is reported to have the world-s highest child mortality rate and faces the sixth highest maternal death. According to OCHA-s 2020 Humanitarian Needs Overview, over 2.4 million Somali people require lifesaving essential healthcare and nutrition services3. According to the 2020 Somalia Humanitarian Needs Overview, 2.7 million people, more than 20 per cent, require support to access basic WASH services. All target areas are in high need of WASH assistance. In particular, Togdheer has suffered from water scarcity which remains the highest pressing priority need as indicated by Nadfor leaving the region to be one of the most needy districts in the eastern region of Somaliland. The provision of safe water sources remains a key priority. In Maroodi-jeh region, water prices have dramatically gone up - the cost of vended water has increased by 50% - which the most vulnerable are unable to afford. Furthermore, multiple shallow wells have dried up and water levels in most boreholes and berkads have decreased to abnormally low levels. In all target areas communities must travel long distances to reach the next water sources exposing them to protection risks. The need for hygiene facilities in Qalah IDP are high. Against this backdrop, WV will continue to implement activities in Awdal (Baki), Togdheer (Burco), Waqooyi Galbeed (Hargeisa, Gabiley) and Qalah IDP camp and provide WASH, FSL, Health and Multipurpose cash interventions benefiting a total of 68,846 vulnerable individuals. Objective Ensure easy access to affordable, equitable, and clean water for rural communities in the worst water shortage crisis in Duruqsi and Karin-shabeel village, Togdheer & M.jeex regions of Somaliland. The scope of projected activities to be implemented in the Karin-Shabeel and Dururqsi villages of Togdheer & M.Jeex, Somaliland. The deadline for submission of applications is Monday, 14th Nov 2022 at the office of the President, Behind Ilays Secondary School. Bid documents should be sealed, stamped and hereafter a hardcopy.
